About the event

Prince William County marks a historic moment with its first official Juneteenth celebration, and Plunky & Oneness are part of this opening chapter - bringing live Black music into a public moment of remembrance, reflection, and community.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black people in Texas were informed of their freedom. It stands as both a celebration of emancipation and a reminder of the long, unfinished work of freedom in America. Music has always played a central role in how Black communities carry this history forward - through rhythm, gathering, and collective expression.

For more than fifty years, J. Plunky Branch has worked within Afrocentric jazz, funk, and diasporic rhythm as a form of cultural continuity. A performance by Plunky & Oneness is not just a concert - it’s a shared cultural moment, rooted in tradition and forward movement. Their sound honors lineage while creating space for present-day…
